A blustery day...

Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day - i will confess to not knowing many of the Winnie the Pooh stories - having skimmed them as an adult and not really understanding their appeal to small children except the cute characters - the language is fairly advanced i think - but i thought the same bout Paddington Bear too - maybe i'm a late bloomer? Anyhow, the one story that sticks in my brain bout Winnie is the one about a very blustery day in the fall and the little creatures were blowing through the wood and Owl's house blows over and there's a flood - and while i don't wish for a flood at all (we've had enough for one summer) i do think that today's wind and gusts remind me of that story... wow, that was long-winded! Heehee...
Also, on this blustery day, i finally unpacked the last box that was left over from moving last year - just over a year ago actually, September 19th was the date i believe... so i've been here for just over a year - hard to believe and sometimes it feels like this is always the way it has been...
Anyhow... a while ago i was browing my sister's blog and she had completed one of these list thingymabobs... and claimed at the end that no one she knew would complete it... so just to prove you wrong, my dearest sis...

Good fences....

Just to give you fair warning - and this will be a quick little blog since i must run outside to rescue the water glass perched precariously outside my office window before it blows over in the breeze... the next time you drive to my house - things have been a'changin! Gone are the florid red and white stripes of the fences beside my house - which i know at least some of you use as a landmark... now i guess you'll have to come up with other methods! This is a project that has long been on my list of things to do and now it's done... and i couldn't be happier - i like the way it has turned out and it's such a relief to have it done!!! So come on over sometime for a cuppa and see for yourself!

Before....
After.... with a hint of Mom....
What a difference a few kans of paint make eh?
And one for the road - just cause it's good to have pictures of yourself
looking silly every once in a while - keeps everyone else sane! At least with paint splashed on my cheeks, i look like i worked a bit!

The view from the kitchen window a few weeks ago

Hmmmm.... well, okay, i'll admit, it's been a very, very long time since anything of significance was posted on this blog... perhaps due to the severely cramped schedule which i have found myself locked into lately but fortunately, that is now behind me for one week and i can spend a glorious week at home, relaxing, working on projects here and there, catching up with some of my long lost friends and family whom i have so terribly neglected over the last few weeks. Sometimes life just seems to get so busy, eh, and there's nothing one can do about it except ride the wild wave and hope you come up breathing on the other side. Work, yes, it has been super busy the last while - i suppose i've been trying to bolster the suffering bank account before renos would begin on my one-person designer 60s kitchen... but it has played much havoc with my social life. Fortunately, for those who know me well, my sleep patterns (literally falling asleep nearly anywhere, it seems) have not been interrupted, although thanks to a pair of sometimes restless legs, i am sent to bed earlier than i would wish. Aaah, well, just gives me more time to read. I just re-finished "An assembly such as this" by Pamela Aiden - a story telling the events of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's perspective - very interesting and well worth the read. Yes, there are also about eight other books on my reading shelf - borrowed from friends and family and the ever-faithful library (which, to my utter frustration, as alluded to in my sister's blog in the recent past, the new library by the police station has no signs to direct you anywheres - you just wander around in the stacks aimlessly randomly finding things of interest but taking hours to find the things you actually came in for - aah...the price of modern technology and the theories of librarification!!!)
Three minutes later....
Okay... back again - flight of ideas sometimes occurs in my head (well often) and i was just distracted into wandering outside after hearing a little birdie hit my window - i didn't find any incapacitated fowl but i found some flowers which begged me to come inside and sit in the pretty little pitcher which i found at the dump store today... so now i sit in my office, with the windows open, the breeze gently wafting through, thinking of what to have for dinner and enjoying the pretty black eyed Susans nodding and dipping their heads in the wind. Tomorrow, hopefully the weather will be good and Mom and I can finish up staining my front door and making it look presentable again - it was looking pretty tired...
and a little lick of colour always perks things up...
On to the pictures... not sure of the last ones i put up - but i thought i'd throw a random assortment of the garden up...
The morning glories are threatening to take over the house... creepy!
For some reason, my garden produces really big plants... crazy!
I'm trying to be like my mother - doing things in threes... hence three rocks "borrowed" from the side of the road on a road trip earlier in the summer... paired with my hydrangea bush - which i'm in love with - you can't see the pretty colour on this picture but it's a lovely baby blue!!! Hopefully the soil will be of the right type to keep it that colour!
"Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite..."
A little bit of produce from my first garden ever, unfortunately the tomatoes suffered dismal fate - they all rotted on the vine much to my chagrin after such a promising early break from the gate... aaah, well, live and learn - next year, pruning and spacing are in order and not forgetting that sunflowers and canna lilies get pretty tall - hmmm.. tomatoes like sun!
