Muskoka memories...

As i sit here at the table surrounded by my dear family on the last night here at the cottage here in the Muskokas, i thought i'd relay some of the conversation going around the table.... quite amusing...
Lauren - these brownies are too good...
Mike - Ooooyyyy....discard...
Rachel - Discard a general store???
Tom - she's got the double barrelled again?
(i'm not cut out to be a court room transcriber by the way)
Mike - alright, Timothy, you and me...duel...BANG
Timothy - i have no cards
Lauren - you can't die, you have to win...
Mike - Hi, hon, i love you....
Rachel - Honey lager??? (pulled a funny joke)
Mom is laughing on the sidelines
Timothy to Rachel - i'm challenging you to a uel
Rachel - i got shot
(This might not be in perfect conversational order)
Rachel - Bang, Timothy
Lauren - No, no, you're going to die, Timothy!! (explodes with three mighty sneezes, banging her elbows on the table)
Timothy - I have a stagecoach, one, two... (deep sighs),
Lauren -  there's no Vulture Sam....
(There is logic to this game..
Timothy - i'm going to play a Panic card, and then this Barrel....
 Tom - Rachel,  Cheater McCheaterson
Timothy - I'm going to play the General Store...I'm going to Bang you Rachel...
Rachel - I'm dead....
Mike - YesSSSSS!!!  Exulting in the fact that he just killed Timothy....
Don't worry, at this point, no one is actually dead...my dear family are playing the card game BANG.  They are having fun, and are trying their level best to convince me to join in but from the amount of questions and complicated conversation that is going around the table, my poor antique brain would be hurting majorly by the end of the first round...i much prefer watching them and hearing them have fun together - whilst enjoying the lovely lovely breeze coming off Sparrow Lake, anticipating one last dip in the hot tub, listening to loons and drinking a cool beer...
Pics to follow!

3:59 am...

Whilst most of my adoring public are snoring away in your (hopefully) cool beds, i'm sitting here in the air conditioning (why do i need to put the air on at home when i get free airco here at work?).  It's 3:50 am, and i'm on the tail end of the first of three night shifts.  For some crazy reason, i'm ridiculously awake at present and seem to have gotten my second wind.  Charting about an hour or so ago was a challenge, the last one being pretty rough looking as far as penmanship goes - when i get kinda tired, my pen seems to take on a life of it's own and skitter and scratch its errant way across the page, giving me away as a eye-drooping RN.
Thankfully, everyone is copacetic so far tonight - a few fevers here and there, but that will be dealt with in the morning - nothing to do right now except fight the sleep battle as valiantly as possible.
As i sit here, i think that it's been nearly a year since we've been in this new building.  I've never worked in such a new area - but there are definite disadvantages too.  One being that at night, we are so spread out, that i have absolutely no idea what's going on the rest of the ward.  In the old world, we had one nurse's station (and a tiny satellite one), but you got to chat with your co-workers and see how they were doing - how their patients were doing.  That is now all completely gone and i sit alone tonight at the south nursing station, accompanied only by the deep snores of my patient down the hall.
I've gotten used to the sounds and sights of this place - toilets flushing, patients banging around in their rooms with their iv poles trying to find the bathroom in the dark, beeping of IV pumps, the soft footsteps of my co-workers as they pass me on their way to hunt for some food or maybe a warm blanket.
I ask myself, do i love my job?  I'm not so sure that i can answer passionately with a resounding yes.  Work conditions the last year have been too stressful and demanding for that.  Working chronically understaffed has its definite drainining qualities on myself and my co-workers.  There are many times i'm thankful that i work only part-time to avoid the stress of being here full-time.  As it is, i feel many times like hugging my co-workers and tellling them they're doing a good job in the face of adversity; maybe one day my rant and rave email will finally make it out there for people to read!  Fat lot of good it would do eh?
Well, i guess i'd better cut this off for now, my bossy legs have decided to torture me and make me feel like screaming so i'll go for a little stroll and see who's awake!

Garage Sale Tally...
- one Fiskars paper cutter brand new with extra blade - $4.00 (mine is just wearing out and i love my paper cutter!)
- one pair of clear plastic salad tongs just like what mom has - $1.00 (Lauren and Tom, do you want these?  I thought you were lacking such implements)
- one cooler Thermos jug - $2.00 (always handy)
- two old looking copies of novels by Zane Grey - $2.00 (doesn't everyone have to read a Zane Grey novel once in their life?  These copies are nice hardcover old looking ones so that makes it all the much more worth it!)
- a crib board and a calculator - $1.00 (crib board either for Timothy or Lauren and Tom - whomever claims it first.  The calculator for the COA at church since ours died the other night)
Not too bad for an hour poking around and searching for deals amongst the junk... oh how i have missed you, garage sales!  The lure of sweet deals hiding in decrepit cardboard boxes and old card tables is so enticing and i realized how much i like this!

It's 11:12 pm...do you know where Danielle is?

My dear readers may indeed be thinking that above question?  Why has she forgotten to write or even leave a forwarding number?  Well, i do still live and breath and am not sold off to some foreign king as his 34th wife or am not driving a semi truck across the American mid-West delivering flour to rich movie stars in California.  I must admit option number 2 sounds a mite more exciting than what i'm up to currently... i'm nearly nearly ready for bed (having snuck a 15 minute nap this afternoon wasn't enough to revive my flagging strength today - i think the week of warm and sticky weather has finally caught up - it's beautiful and gorgeous tonight but maybe there's a cumulative heat index in which case i'm probably red-lining since my body doesn't cope well with heat - there are people who manage to look graceful and pretty and elegant no matter what the weather - not so with this chick - bring on the fans and freezies and i'm a happy camper!).  The laundry is nearly done - and i will hang up my uniforms and then haul myself off to bed...
But really, what have i been up to?  Well, i think sometimes it's just a lack of super exciting things going on (travel bug is starting to bite pretty badly) or maybe the heat has deadened my creativity or maybe it's the fact that my dear computer also doesn't cope well with heat and seems to be even slower when the temps are higher ( i know, i know, it's time to get a new computer - but i'll readily admit to being super intimidated by all the options out there - i'm so out of the loop that even looking for a new phone is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
I've been working quite a bit - i think i might do a separate post about work sometime - but i don't want to turn this into a rant and rave which is so easy lately!  So we'll leave that sticky subject.  I've been busy in the garden which is turning into quite a jungle and my favorite thing to do is to leave the garden for a few days and then to go for a walk-about and see what's growing and maturing at what rates!  I love to see the changes and new life constantly changing!  If you want a garden tour sometime, just send me a little note to make sure i'm home and i'll take you around!   Timothy and I are spending nearly every weekend together - visiting (or trying to visit) various tourist attractions in southern Ontario - it's neat to be a tourist in your own backyard!  We like learning about history and culture and it's fun to see new areas and take drives here and there!
Anyhow... that's it for tonight... perhaps tomorrow morning i'll try for some pictures...
