A moment in time

Across the field i saw him
He was capering, sniffing, searching
I was watching, waiting, listening
Two separate creatures
joined by a moment in time
He lifted his head and became wary
He knew he was not alone in the field
I stood stockstill, attempting not to disturb his day
Then....
He ran.
I sought to follow him with my eyes as he sped away into the woods
A flash of orange amidst the greenery
And then, there he was, on the path in front of me
Both of us stopped
Stared a moment
Pondering the other
and then
the moment was broken and
we went about our business
A chance encounter.
