NEW YORK, NEW YORK
Okay... so, after muchly being frustrated with my computer and blogger...at last some pictures have made their way onto my blog... they were in order when i started, however, somehow, they no longer are... so you'll just have to look through them as they are because if i try to rearrange them, this computer may no longer exist as it is today, but instead may be broken into a thousand little unidentifiable pieces. So, for the sake of semi-efficiency, things will remain in situ! Enjoy. If you would like to view things in a semi-order, start at the bottom and work your way up! They are all pictures from Lauren and I/myself?/me/my recent trip to the Big Apple last weekend. We had so much fun! Did so much! and our feet did not thank us. But we really enjoyed ourselves immensely and would highly recommend people to do some touring there - there's so much to see and do! We had fantastic weather, met so many nice people and stayed as safe as can be - no King Kong abductions for us, thank you very much!
Our favorite animals at the Central Park Zoo - the penguins, i kept thinking to myself "what are they up to? Planning the next great escape like in Madagascar?" This was one of the only clear photos, the rest were all little plump black and white blurs.
The church of St. John the Divine, this was a crazy wonder of architecture!
The focus of this picture is not actually supposed to be Lauren... it's supposed to be the cute NYC police officer somewhere in the background! Not so successsful.
One of my favorite shots in the city... taken from a shopping plaza near Central Park through the windows...i love the look of it!
Good bye New York, New York! We'll be back to see you again!
I picked up some guys at the M&M's store in Times Square! They were oh so cute and friendly!
The view from atop the Empire State Building... it sure was a long way down! Surprisingly, I was the braver one who managed to stick her arm over the edge to take this shot! Go figure since i'm scared of heights!
Not so sure about the heights here though... the day started off cloudy but turned out beautiful!
We met the seals at the Central Park Zoo... along with fifty thousand excited school kids... we were definitely in the minority as adults, but it was kinda fun nonetheless
The polar bear was so lively, we almost saw him blink!
A neat shot of the Flatiron Building... an architectural marvel!! On a beautiful day!
yep, we met Morgan Freeman... he was a little overdressed and stern, but we managed to get a shot with him anyways...
You can't actually see the title of the show but we managed to even squeeze a Broadway show into our packed schedule ... Phantom it was and it was very good!
We spent some time in Times Square... it was so busy even at 11:30 at night... crazy people, don't you ever sleep???
Times square again... one of fifty thousand people! and lots and lots of lights - this was about seven blocks from our hotel, so that was super nice!
On our way to Ellis Island... the ferry was so packed and we were quite annoyed that our prime seats were soon made irrelevent by all the Japanese tourists who crammed themselves around us to stand on the edges of the boat to take pictures...kinda frustrating but what can you expect on a nice hot sunny day!
The arrivals hall at Ellis Island, many of the immigrants to the States passed through these halls, with the long waiting lines, medical inspections and sometimes dreams that were denied. What a place chock full of history.... we could have stayed here much longer!
I love this shot of Lauren, the sky was so blue and we were having a great time!
Gotta have some "patriotic" shots... we actually have quite a few of these, but i loved the lighting on this one!
Many of the subway stops had fun decals on the wall, i think this stop must have been in the fashion district or something like that! There were all kinds of hats all along the walls.
One of our favorite places... Little Italy... Eddie, a really neat guy whom we met at church, took us all over the city and showed us this area as well - a real favorite area of his. We ate a fabulous dinner here and stank of garlic for the rest of the night!
Bring on the garlic!
Cafe Lalo - used in the filming of the movie, You've Got Mail. Eddie took us here for dessert - and what dessert it was! The next picture shows it off... it was so good! And a wonderful people watching spot - it was packed!
Yum yum!!!
Me and old George hanging out near the Stock Exchange on Wall Street - high security everywhere and lots of cops! Kinda intimidating if you ask me!
Posing on the Brooklyn Bridge - a real "thing to do" in the city... we had such lovely weather - sunny, sunny, sunny!!!
A little bit of New York skyline - with some cool clouds to set it off... that's the Empire State Building if you needed that!
We found a good souvenier for Momsy, but alas, it did not fit in our carryons or pockets so unfortunately we had to leave it be... sadness abounds...
A really neat shot - there was a phenomenon called "Jacob's Ladder" when the sky opens and the sun peaks through - we were in the right place at the right time to see this wonderful display of God's creativity!
Quite possibly the scuzziest (?sp?) subway station we managed to find ourselves in - it was so dark and dismal and dirty that we half expected a giant rat to jump up on the platform and drag us down to its lair beneath the tracks... fortunately we survived and even managed to meet a nice Haitian man on the train at this stop! Ou pale kreyol??
Eating a cheap piece of "street meat" in Central Park on our first afternoon... it was super nice weather!
This is kinda like one of those "where's Waldo?" pictures - can you find me amidst all the Native New Yorkers? I'm the one with the Canadian accent!
These shoes were made for walking... and that's just what we did.... all over the place!
A street vendor - they were seemingly on every corner, vending hot dogs, icecream and pretzels to the culinarily undiscerning public...
A neat shot of a skyscraper in Manhatten - how would you like to work in such a towering ediface of steel and glass??? No sisirreee, not me!
Happy to be on the ferry boat around New York safe and sound - no muggings yet... only three more days to go?!
Lady Liberty herlsef, in the flesh, well, in the copper and steel and such.. we have about fifty pictures of her... it's hard to stop taking them, it's like some force takes over the camera and keeps on pressing the button until "oops, there's another thirteen more"!
Our little airplane - Jet Blue was an airline i could highly recommend.... they were super friendly, helpful and on time! We flew from Buffalo NY to JFK airport and then took the AirTrain and then the subway into town!
Lauren was apparently blowing the foamies off the top of her cup whilst we waited for the airplane to be ready for us! It was sure good to have a coffee in the morning to help us wake up!
Lauren and I, heading for the border, on the run, on our way to adventure.. We first of all headed to Buffalo to attend the wedding of my friend Brenda to her man Aaron. Alas, i am not allowed to post wedding pics i don't think because they haven't seen them all yet either! So when the coast is clear, i'll try to remember to pop a few in here...
